Biography:
Burcu Göknar was born in Istanbul in December 13, 1980.
Graduated in 2002 from Public Relations and Advertisement Department, School of Communications, Marmara University. As a student she worked in MİHA the news agency of the university as a photographic editor, took photographs for professional publications, made photojournals. Since 2003 she has worked for various national and international publications starting with Turkish National Geographic Magazine as a freelance photographer. In 2004 with a fellowship from Swedish Institute and the Consulate, she studied at Nordens FotoSkola Biskops Arnö. In 2010 completed her Masters Degree at Marmara University on Communication Sciences.
Her photographs on suburbia were exhibited in 2001 at İFSAK’s 17th International Photographic Festival; the “Night Shift” titled photograph of two sisters were exhibited in 2005 at the 9th Istanbul Biennial Hospitality Section (collectively).
“Night Shift” was invited and presented (individually) to Italian Menotrentuno II Photographic Festival in 2008, and to Italian Sassari Fine Arts Academy in 2009.
“Immigrating Back” photographs were exhibited (collectively) in 2010, where 5 photographers were invited each from Turkey, Greece and Russia, first in Istanbul Modern Fine Arts Museum, then in Moscow International Photographic Biennial and the Tessaloniki International Photographic Biennial.
Her Photo Albume "Vefa" has been published by Fotografevi Publications in 2010, June.
Today she works as a freelance photographer at Photo Araf Photographic Agency where she is also a founding member. |
